The Government’s efforts to help Chinese primary schools have been proven over time and they are not just “political sweet talk” for elections, MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat said.He said the Government had managed to prove that such accusations made by the people with bad intentions had no basis.

Driving home his point, Ong said the SJK (C) Wu Teck in Bagan Hylam in the Klang parliamentary constituency, where the party’s candidate lost in the last general election, was being relocated to a new site in Parkland, Bukit Tinggi 3.  “Today, we are here to start the project soon although the MCA lost,” he told reporters after visiting the school. He said a RM3mil allocation under the mini budget had been approved by the Federal Government for the new premises of the school, adding that this was additional proof that such projects were not only carried out during campaign periods.

Ong, who is the Transport Minister, said the MCA had never been lax in its efforts to assist SJK(C) Wu Teck from the beginning despite facing various challenges and obstacles, including getting the building plan, allocation and the relocation approved. The new school, with 30 classrooms on a 1.4ha plot, is expected to be ready in two years and can accommodate more than 1,000 students. The present wooden building houses only three classrooms with 47 pupils.Ong said students would be absorbed into nearby schools when it was closed. The developer of Parkland has agreed to donate the land for the school and RM1mil towards the building fund. Ong also said that the Government had allocated RM50mil for Chinese primary schools that needed immediate treatment for termite problems, adding that 33 schools in Selangor were allocated RM3.37mil.
